How to Keep your Succulent Happy
Welcome home, little plant! Here’s everything you need to help it thrive for years to come.
The Basics
☀️ Sunlight
Bright indirect light is ideal. A south- or east-facing windowsill works great. Avoid harsh afternoon sun — it can scorch leaves.
🌡️ Temperature
Happiest between 60–80°F (15–27°C). Keep away from cold drafts, AC vents, and heating radiators.
💧 Water
Water every 10–14 days in warmer months, every 3–4 weeks in winter. Always let the soil dry out completely between waterings.
🌬️ Air & Humidity
Succulents love dry air — no misting needed. Good airflow helps prevent rot and fungal issues. Skip the bathroom windowsill.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
The #1 killer of succulents is overwatering, not neglect.
Don't water on a strict schedule — check that the soil is bone dry first. As a general rule, if you stick your finger in the soil and feel moisture, don’t water!
Don't place in a dark corner — they need real light to survive
Don't mist the leaves. Instead, water deeply at the soil level.
Make sure you are using a fast-draining soil to avoid root rot.
What to Expect Over Time
First Week
Let it settle
Don't water yet — give it a few days to adjust after the move. Normal if leaves look slightly stressed.
Month 1
Find its spot
Rotate the pot once a week so all sides get even light. It may lean toward the window — that's normal.
Months 2-3
Watch for growth
New leaves from the center? Great sign. Stretching toward light? Needs a brighter spot.
Year 1+
Consider repotting
Once roots start peeking out the drainage hole, it's time for a pot one size up — usually after 12–18 months.
🌱 Bonus: You can grow more from one plant!
Succulents propagate easily from leaves. Gently twist a healthy leaf off cleanly, set it on dry soil in bright light, and mist lightly every few days. In 2–4 weeks you'll see tiny new plants forming at the base. It's slow, but so much fun!
